The door that nobody else will go in at, seems always to swing open widely for me.

PH03332I…so spoke Clara Barton founder of The American Red Cross.  Somehow, these words surprised me and I think it was out of ignorance. I had a Clara Barton doll, small and made of fabric, that came in a beautiful basket as a set with other heroes of history including Davy Crockett. But if pressed, I wouldn’t have been able to say that she was the founder of the Red Cross.  Fortunately I saw the quote and learned a little bit about her (never married, became a nurse and convinced non-believers of the need for the Red Cross in spite of others imagining there would never be as devastating a war again as the Civil War) via my daily dose of history, literature and good poems from The Writers Almanac.  IIf you don’t subscribe, give them a chance.

Where do you find the quotes that speak to you?
